1. The role of information technology changed
from backroom activities that simply processed
data in the 1970s, to the center of the business in
the 1980s. In the 1980s, technology was just an
addition to the existing way of doing business
(applying new technology on old methods).
Things started to change when businesses ap-
plied new technology to new methods (infor-
mation technology). By the early 2000s, tech-
nology become more sophisticated and became
known as business intelligence (or analytics). BI
includes activities such as data mining, online
analytical process, querying, and reporting.
