Have students brainstorm what a person with Down syndrome can and cannot do. Then show the
documentary “Monica and David” or various clips from the documentary. Have students revisit
their list and discuss how their perspective may have changed.
Brainstorm different types of adaptive behavior and chart the typical development milestones for
each example.
Have students role play how they will integrate a paraeducator in the classroom. What are some
expectations for the paraeducator and what are some things you, the teacher, should not expect?
