LECTURE OUTLINE (20 min)

• Describes various laboratory tests and clinical procedures used with hematologic
LEARNING ACTIVITIES (choose one or more to equal 30 min)
DISCUSS (30 min)
• As a class, discuss the Background Assessment and Critical Thinking Question below.
• Divide the class into four groups. Their mission: to determine the appropriate lab tests
POST & COMMENT
• Post the Critical Thinking Question below and have students post their responses and
comment on each other’s posts.
PLAY (30 min)
• Have four student groups create crossword puzzles relating to terms about transplant
or transfusion therapy. Have groups exchange puzzles.
• Blood Terminology Bingo: Create bingo cards with blood terminology abbreviations and
acronyms. To play, call out the meanings of terms. Switch callers.
ANALYZE (20 min)
• Read the case report and ask students to write the answers to the questions. Ask them
to spell out all abbreviation and analyze and define terms used in the answers.
• Spell a medical term to the class. Ask students to copy the term, underlining the
accented syllable and analyzing the terms. Ask students to pronounce the word.
Repeat this for 10 to 20 terms.
