Does a Nursing Model Make a Difference?
You are the director of staff development in a large university hospital, and the chief
nurse executive (CNE) has met with you to discuss orientation for student nurses and
faculty. The CNE is concerned that students and faculty do not understand the hospital’s
new nursing model, Synergy Model for Patient CareTM. She tells you it is your job to
correct this problem. You leave the meeting overwhelmed. This seems like a big
responsibility to you. The hospital has many nursing students from three schools of
nursing that use its services for practicum. All have to attend a four-hour orientation to
the hospital, which is already overburdened with content, and the faculty and students
have limited time for orientation. The units have also been struggling with applying the
model since it was initiated six months ago.
