4. Findings from an extensive transformational leadership survey by Kouzes and Posner
spans over 20 years, including a 75,000-person sample. Participants were asked to name
the top seven characteristics they look for in a leader. Some, but not all, of the
characteristics cited: honesty, determined, imaginative, broad-minded, inspiring,
ambitious, mature, loyal, and caring.
The authors also identify four actions for leadership:
