Chapter 11 Lab Solutions
None of the labs in this chapter get saved (no copy run start). These labs are written as
if one student configures both ends of a WAN link for PPP. However, in most instances,
a team of students will be working in the lab at the same time, so one end of the link will
be configured by one student and the other end will be configured by a different student.
With regards to the Frame Relay labs, students should complete those in one sitting. In
addition, if the lab-a and lab-e routers are turned on, they will attempt to update the
Frame Relay routers and cause transmission problems. The students are instructed to
keep them turned off, but make sure they do it.
Once in a while, students will get a bad entry in their Frame Relay map that prohibits the
configuration from working. If they run the show fr map command, they will see zeroes
there. There should not be a string of zeroes. All they have to do is copy run start, and
then reload. The entries in the table will be dumped from memory and the table will
rebuild, usually correctly.
Instructor Tips Lab 11.1
Students cannot use the lab-e router in this lab because there are no active serial
interfaces on this router. The lab is written as if each student configures two connected
serial interfaces on different routers; in other words, a point-to-point link. If they work in
teams, they will not move from router to router because their teammates will be
configuring the other end of the WAN link.
