Case Projects Discussion
Case Project 10-1
One of the big problems in a mixed IPv4/IPv6 environment is how or if various applications talk to the two
different versions of IP. It stands to reason that the company’s current applications are IPv4 compatible, but very
likely most of them will not communicate with IPv6. If you select applications written specifically for IPv6, they
may not work with IPv4-only nodes and services, which will probably exist in your network for quite some time
Case Project 10-2
Most of the information to resolve this case project was included in the body of the chapter. While Windows 7
does support Teredo, the Teredo tunneling pseudo-interface is disabled by default. The interface can be enabled
and set to use a Teredo server at microsoft.com, but there are a number of errors that can occur. If you run the
netsh interface teredo show state command and the interface has a status of Offline, look in the
Error field of the output. If it states that client is in a managed network, the Type setting for the interface needs to
be set to enterpriseclient and not client.

The diagram doesn’t have to be very detailed but it should include TCP and/or UDP in the Transport header. The
IPv6 header should contain the Next Header field, ideally pointing to the Transport Layer protocol. The IPv6
header also contains the Source and Destination address fields, which, ideally, should indicate that they are
