Many of the cases and application exercises in the text lend themselves nicely to term projects. I
generally let the students form teams and chose the application exercise or case they want to do
(subject to my approval). I tell them their grade will be based on the challenge of the exercise/case
they chose and how well they do it. At a session early in the term when they meet with me to get
approval for their choice, we negotiate on the value of the exercise and I often add or subtract from
the task suggested in the text. An advantage of this approach is that it causes the students to examine
the entire text early in the term. A useful handout for helping students use one of the cases as a term
project is presented below.
