Chapter 6: Selecting New Employees
1. The three primary types of interviews are the unstructured interview, in which the interviewer has no
preplanned questions or topics; the semistructured interview, where the interviewer may ask both
planned and unplanned questions; and the structured interview, where all candidates are asked the
same set of questions. In which circumstances would you use each of these types of interviews? Are
there situations or positions that you would never use a particular type of interview for? Why or why
not?
3. Many employers utilize tests as part of the hiring process. What challenges do you believe testing
brings into the selection process? Are there particular industries or positions where you believe testing
may be more or less valuable to the selection process?
