EXERCISE 14
PAY COMPRESSION AT OLYMPIA SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
The “problem” the students confront in this exercise is not uncommon. It is found in many organizations.
Those who move from company to company can often command higher salaries than those who remain
with the same employer for a while. (In this case, “tough times” at Olympia Software Systems has
exacerbated the problem.)
Students should be urged to analyze the situation from, at least, two perspectives:
1. How do the “asking salaries” fit into the current salary ranges? Are the current OSS ranges
reasonable or do they seem dated (i.e., low)?
