for this lesson
Students who have used Photoshop over the years may be used to working

images in Photoshop, but switching to Illustrator or InDesign to work on type. This

Creating
type on
a
pa
th
Typing on a path can be tricky. Remind students to watch the appearance of
t
he
mouse pointer when the Type on a Path tool is selected, because they want to
w
a
t
c
h
for the diagonal line that appears over the mouse pointer when
it
s positioned over a
clickable part of the path. Make sure students click the end of the path closest to
t
he
mo
de
l
s mouth so that when they start typing, the right-aligned text will be
adde
d
from that end of the speech

Point out some of the OpenType options in the Character panel menu. If you c

to tracking, leading, kerning, and baseline shift. You may also

students to explore the Glyphs panel, as some students may not be aware of the full
range of characters available in OpenType

Note that overrides are retained when you apply a new paragraph style until you
click the Clear Override button. For example, if text has the Basic Paragraph style
assigned to it, but has a different type size than the Basic Paragraph style, the ty
p
e
size is an override. When you apply a new paragraph style, Photoshop does
not
apply the type size of the new style; instead, it honors the original override. This
behavior is different from that of other applications. To ensure that all of a style s
attributes are applied to text, clear overrides either immediately before applying
