Activity One: Prediction versus creation approaches
(This is a team exercise; it can be used for online, face-to-face, or a blended format)
The two main perspectives on entrepreneurship are the predictive approach, the older
and more traditional view; and the creation approach, which has been developed
Divide the course into two teamsone that drafts all the benefits of tradition prediction

approaches. What entrepreneurial approach is most appropriate for contemporary
business? What perspective is espoused by the authors of your text? How does that

Activity Two: Theory of Effectuation
(This can be done solo or as a team exercise; it can be used for online, face-to-face,

In 1997, Dr. Sarasvathy conducted her seminal work on the theory of effectuation by

conducted interviews with 30 entrepreneurs. If you were replicating her study now

Components of Deliberate Practice
It requires high levels of focus, attention, and concentration.
It strengthens performance by identifying weakness and improving on them.
It must be consistent and be maintained for long periods of time.
It involves setting goals beforehand.
It involves self-observation and self-reflection after practice sessions are
completed.
