Chapter 10: The Lectures
1. What purpose do the lectures serve?
2. As you read about the lectures that are commonly used to educate clients about their
addiction, what are your reactions to the topics? Are there additional topics you believe
are important?
3. Review the various lectures. Are there lectures you feel more confident providing? Less
confident providing? Why or why not? Explain your answer.
4. You are encouraged to develop your own personal style of delivering the lectures. What
are you aware of, in regards to your own style of learning that will influence the
approach you take to delivering a lecture?
5. Its important to provide information in a language that is best understood by the
audience. Would you deliver material any differently if your treatment population were
adolescent? Adult? How?
6. College students may listen to lecture of 90 minutes or more. But treatment lectures
should only be 30 minutes to an hour. Why do you suppose this is?
