The following are activities to practice and hone you skills.
1. Many anti-anxiety drugs have a potential for tolerance, dependency, and withdrawal.
These symptoms of withdrawal may mimic the symptoms of the original anxiety. Break
into small groups and discuss how this issue complicates treatment. What are some
potential solutions?
2. Often our society debates the comparative harmfulness of various drugs. Break into
small groups and rank opiates, alcohol, and amphetamines in terms of their harmfulness
to an individual and the society. How did your group arrive at this rank?
3. Break into small groups and choose a group leader. Using the text, have the group
leader share effects (on behavior and body) without giving the name of the drug. Try to
determine which drug or drug family is being presented based on the characteristics.
