WORK ADJUSTMENT THEORY
Describe a few of your current work values or needs as listed in Table 4-1 on page 98. In the groups, have
students explain how these values or needs have been met in current or past work.
Why do you believe that Dawis and Lofquist make interests subordinate to values in work adjustment
theory? Do you agree with this view of the relationship between interests and values?
Model work adjustment theory by having a student "client" role-play a work adjustment and/or career
Explain the adjustment you have observed in retired people in terms of values and needs.
Use the grid on page 113 to describe your own satisfaction with a recent job. Enter some of the 20 needs
listed in Table 4-1 (p. 98) that are meaningful to you. How useful is this grid to you?
What types of clients and client problems would be best served by the application of work adjustment
theory?
