The following are activities to practice and hone you skills.
1. Break into groups of two. Take turns interviewing your partner with the Cognitive
Capacity Screening Tool (Appendix 1). What is the best way to explain the purpose of
this tool to clients while maintaining consistency and unconditional positive regard?
2. Often times, clients have multiple issues related to their substance use that require
augmenting their treatment with referrals to other community resources. List the
names and telephone numbers of some resources in your community for persons who
need:
a. Housing support?
b. Free or discounted legal assistance?
c. Job Training?
d. Child care?
