The following are activities to practice and hone you skills.
1. Have each student prepare a five-minute lecture on an addiction related topics covered in
the book. Each of them must deliver their lecture in front of class. Encourage students to ask
questions to the presenter.
2. It is important to become comfortable with communication media like flipcharts,
PowerPoint, smart boards, etc. Break into small groups and develop a PowerPoint outline on
one of the lecture topics discussed in this chapter.
3. The book suggests stories are a great way to emphasize a concept. Come up with a story
(personal story is best) that illustrates powerlessness. How bout a story for the need for
4. In small group discussions of 34 students, decide the sequence that the lectures should be
delivered. Discuss your decisions within a large group discussion. Who agrees, disagrees?
What consensus does the class come to regarding the importance of how the lectures are
delivered?
