Below are some situations for your students to consider that take into account concepts from
Chapter Three.
1. There has been considerable debate among Americans and even among members of the U.S.
Congress and Senate that English should be the official language of the United States and that
members of the above-profiled microcultures should be required to speak English, especially
when engaged in civil and legal affairs. What do you think? Should English be the official
language of the United States?
