Activity 1
Question of the Day
The question of the day is a fun and easy way to draw students into the topic of the
day’s class, get to know one another, take roll, or use as a discussion question for
an online class. Here are the questions for use in Part III.
1. Who is your favorite hip-hop artist? How is sexuality constructed in hip-hop?
2. If you could make or repeal one gender-related law/policy what would it be?
3. If you could make or repeal one race-related law/policy what would it be?
4. Who is a positive celebrity or political role model? How have they submitted or
distorted our views on self-identity?
Activity 2
Becoming a Critical Media Viewer
This in-class exercise is designed to (1) help students gain skills in critical viewing and
listening and (2) to prepare them for the deconstructing assignments later in the term.
Activity 3
Critical Viewing in Action: Dreamworlds 3
1. Obtain a copy of Dreamworlds 3 from your campus library or from the Media
Education Foundation.
2. Depending on time and instructor preference, show the entire film or selected
sections to the class.
