Part II: Representations of Gender, Race, and Class
1. Creating Prezi/PowerPoint Presentations: Students create research-based
presentations using either Prezi or PowerPoint around the following topics. The
associated readings from the text are designed to get students started on the topic.
From there, they will need to gather more scholarly and popular press research to build
the content of their presentations. The topics are fairly broad, so students can narrow
2. Gender in the Media: This can be done at the start of each class period (or assigned
to pertain to particular topics/readings). In the “gender in the media” assignment,
students report on a current gender-related issue that makes up the public discourse
around gender. This can be anything gender related: a report of a new study about a
men and women’s communication, gender equality in the workplace, a current
3. Example/Counterexample: This assignment builds upon the “Identifying Claims and
Facts” assignment explained in Part I. Remind students that they will first need to
identify a claim/fact from the assigned reading. Next, they will provide (A) an example to
support the claim/fact or (B) an example that challenges or contradicts the claim fact.

4. Design a Wikipedia Page: This project asks students to design a Wikipedia page
about one of the readings from Part II. Divide students into groups of 4–5 people and
