Framing Wood Structures
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this exercise is to properly construct
framing for wood structures.

Two basic choices are available when building the sub-
structure for a deck—traditional post and beam framing
(also called drop beam or plank and beam) or platform
framing (also termed box or flush beam). Post and beam
uses a system of posts to support heavy construction
beams. These beams in turn support structural joists
on-to which the surfacing material is applied. Platform

If resting beam on top of posts, calculate and mark
proper post height. Cut post and rest beam on
top. Fasten using a single saddle connector or
bolts.
