CHAPTER TEACHING FOCUS
In this chapter, the student will be introduced to topics related to fluid and electrolytes.
The student will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the extracellular and intracellular body
fluid compartments; the mechanisms of fluid transport and fluid balance; the causes, signs and
symptoms, and treatment of fluid and electrolyte imbalances; data to be collected in assessing fluid and
electrolyte status; and the causes and management of acid-base imbalances.
