UNDOCUMENTED OR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
An increasing number of immigrants from a variety of nations illegally enter the United
States because of immigration quota restrictions.
In 2017, approximately 10.5 million people, about 3.7 percent of the population, were
illegally in the United States, with 59 percent of them from Mexico.
DISCUSSION ACTIVITY
Experts estimate that 11.1 million people in 2017 were in the United States illegally
(undocumented), about 3.7 percent of the population, having crossed the border illegally, with 59
percent of them from Mexico. With so many undocumented (illegal) immigrants living in the
United States, it is not very difficult to find one. Ask students (and debate/discuss):
