Chapter 9: Organizational Communication
1. How do we get someone to achieve a sense of responsibility to a work group
(i.e., discipline) according to OIC? Do you think it is possible for an employee to
experience discipline even while working under simple or technological control?
2. Colleges are organizations, and being a student can sometimes be comparable to
being an employee in an organization. As such, what was your vocational
anticipatory socialization like in regard to higher education when you were
growing up? What was your anticipatory socialization like? Have you reached
metamorphosis? How do you know?
3. The difference between uncertainty and equivocality is addressed in this chapter.
4. What are some of the new trends, especially in social media, that are affecting
organizational structures and communication today?
5. How has the shift from looking at organizational communication as a form of
social identity to looking at organizational communication as a form of personal
identity changed the way we view organizational communication?
