MATH PROBLEMS
Part 7: Problems 22.30 Through 22.37
PROBLEM 22.30 Determine the values of the angle made by
the cross member and the length of the cross member for the
pier support shown below.
PROBLEM 22.31 Two straight roads intersect to form an
angle of 808. Find the shortest distance from one road to a gas
station on the other road 15009 from the junction.
PROBLEM 22.32 Two buildings with flat roofs are 1609 apart.
From the roof of the shorter building, 509 in height, the angle of
elevation to the edge of the roof of the taller building is 178. How
high is the taller building?
PROBLEM 22.33 A ladder, with its pivoting foot in the street,
makes an angle of 388 with the street when its top rests on a
building on one side of the street and makes an angle of 458 with
the street when its top rests on a building on the other side of
the street. If the ladder is 409 long, how wide is the street?
PROBLEM 22.34 What is the angle of elevation of the sun if
a telephone pole that is 60.09 long casts a shadow 72.39 long?
PROBLEM 22.35 Calculate the weight in pounds, and the
volume in yards, for a precast concrete panel with the dimen-
sions 209-00 long, 49-00 wide, and 19-00 high.
PROBLEM 22.36 How tall is a tree located 2059 from a house
if the angle of elevation to the top of the tree is 148 (as measured
by a 59 60 person at the house).
PROBLEM 22.37 A steel beam has its ends sitting on vertical
columns projecting upward from level ground. One column is
429 high and the other is 479 high. The distance along the ground
between the columns is 829. How long is the steel beam and
what is its angle of elevation?
