CHAPTER 18 WELDING PROCESSES
AND REPRESENTATIONS PROBLEMS
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Given the engineering sketches and layouts, draw the re-
quired number of views and proper welding symbols for
each problem. Completely dimension unless otherwise
specified.
2. For Problems 18.1 through 18.7, given the drawings
showing actual welds or drawings and specifications,
draw the necessary views and proper welding symbols.
Use an appropriate ASME sheet size with border and
sheet block.
3. For the remaining problems, draw the necessary views
and completely dimension and place proper welding
symbols. Use an appropriate ASME or architectural-style
sheet size with border and sheet block based on the
drawing content, unless otherwise specified by your
instructor.

MATH PROBLEMS
Part 3: Problems 18.24 Through 18.33
PROBLEM 18.24 Twenty-seven percent of the shop output is
done on automatic welding machines. If the total output has a
value of $57,750.00, what is the value of the work done on the
automatic machines?
PROBLEM 18.25 If 7/8 of the total weight of rod used on a
job is 67 Ib, what is 37 1/2 percent of the total?
PROBLEM 18.26 A battery-operated tool has a useful life of
110 hours. If the battery is used 50 hours, what percent of its
useful life is left?
PROBLEM 18.27 What percent is wasted when 2.4 of every
120 sheets of metal are spoiled?
PROBLEM 18.28 The repairs on an electric motor cost 24.5
percent of original cost of $750.00. What amount was charged
for repairs?
PROBLEM 18.29 How much should an article sell for to
make a 35 percent profit on a cost of $125.00?
PROBLEM 18.30 A circuit requires 90 volts at a certain point.
The true voltage is 72. What is the percent error?
PROBLEM 18.31 Which is the better buy for a piece of com-
puter software?
a. A sale price of percent off the list price of $560
b. A sale price of $440
c. A “half-off sale” on the regular price of $900
PROBLEM 18.32 What is the weight of the welding material
used on a job if 8 percent of the total weight of 12,550 Ib is weld-
ing material?
PROBLEM 18.33 A gas metal arc welding machine costing
$4,100 last year costs $4,600 this year. What percent of last year’s
cost is this year’s cost?
