Chapter 7: Families
Instructors are provided with two sets of questions to engage students: discussion questions
(in the text) and reading questions (below).
1. What does the volume and intensity of responses to Kells’s essay reveal?
2. How do myths surrounding romantic love influence notions regarding families?
3. What are three things we know about the current state of families?
4. Search parenting/mothering tips on Pinterest. Are notions of intensive mothering present in
online advice to parents? If so, how? If not, what were your observations?
5. Develop 3–5 strategies for creating balance with regard to household labor.
6. Do you feel the pressure to marry and have children? If so, what do these pressures look
like?
