Descrip"on: This is an illustration teaching activity. It is a simple teaching idea designed as a
discussion learning opportunity.
Direc"ons:
1. Have all students in the class get a piece of paper and pen or pencil.
2. Give students the following detinition of work-life balance: Work-life balance is the
accomplishment of role-related expectations that are negotiated and shared between an
individual and his or her role-related partners in the work and family domains.
3. Instruct the students to tirst draw a glass about the length of the paper.
Ac"vity 2: Work-Life Tracking Journal
Descrip"on: This is a journaling activity to help students see their current work-life balance
and how to use time-management strategies to work toward more balance.
Direc"ons:
1. This is a journaling activity that will be assigned one week ahead of the time it will be
discussed in class.
2. To ensure there is su.cient motivation to complete the journaling activity outside of
class over the assigned time, the instructor might consider awarding participation points
for completion according to directions of the assigned activity.
Ac"vity 3: Class Discussion
Descrip"on: This is a class discussion activity designed to explore new work-life balance
strategies being used to help employees.
Direc"ons:
1. During the class period before this class discussion activity will take place, give students
the following homework assignment: Search for articles that describe innovative ways
companies are trying to help employees have greater work-life balance. (Some countries
