Case Study 3.1
Managerial Decision
Readers are asked to play the role of a chemical plant manager in Northern Michigan. The
Canadian government has demanded that the plant, which causes deforestation and shortens the
lives of Canadian residents, be shut down. The manager has both personal and professional
reasons for keeping the plant open.
Before making their determination, students must apply elements from the moral sensitivity and
moral judgment components of Rest’s model of ethical decision-making and action.
