Exercise #1: Which Questions Are Unlawful and Why?
1. Unlawful because it might probe into national origin and current citizenship. You might
tell the recruiter where you are from currently and stop, such as Louisville, Kentucky or
western Oklahoma.
4. Lawful if asked of all applicants. Be as specific as possible to reveal that you have
planned your career but are aware that changes will occur.
8. Unlawful because it is not a BFOQ. You might reply tactfully that this is a personal
matter or simply give a yes or no answer and hope that the recruiter will move on.
