Chapter 20
PREPARING AN ANNOTATED PRESENTATION
Chapter overview
This chapter brings the book full circle—from Plain English writing to presentations to using
Plain English writing for a paper (or electronic) copy of their presentations.
Brief outline of the chapter
I. Cover slides. This section printing the cover slide as a slide rather than as a notes page.
II. Executive summary. If they’re good for a report, they’re equally good for a paper copy of a
presentation.
III. Other slides. This goes in to the crucial concept of how readers read an annotated
presentation—looking at the image of the slide or at the annotation first.
IV. Exercise.
General comments
I always ask for the annotated presentation after the students present. However, it is a great tool
to get beforehand, too, to help you critique the students’ presentations: you can see on paper,
quickly and easily, all the slides and the presentation’s flow.
