23. What are four tips that can help you prepare an effective conclusion? Which two are the most challenging for you?
What do you do (or will you do) to overcome these challenges?
Students should incorporate a discussion of the tips for preparing conclusions in the textbook,
which include: Look for concluding materials, be creative, be brief, and don’t leave the
conclusion to chance, and any additional tips you have outlined for them.

Prepare a compelling conclusion
24. Why do the introduction and conclusion of a speech require special consideration when preparing and delivering a
speech?
Students should be able to articulate why they are important in their own words. For the
introduction, they should include some version of the idea that intros make an audience more
willing to listen, think more highly of the speaker (credibility) and helping the audience
understand the speech better (clarity). For the conclusion, they should include some version of
the idea of reinforcing the thesis, reminding listeners of main points, and framing the
speaker’s ideas and arguments in their own way. They should check pgs. 171-172 for a
summary (or other aspects) of the chapter.

Prepare a compelling conclusion
25. Using a topic of your choice, prepare a conclusion accomplishing the two primary goals. (Note: Your conclusion
should clearly illustrate the goals, but it does not have to be perfect!)
Students should be able to accomplish both objectives outlined in the textbook, which are to
bring your speech to an end and to reinforce our thesis statement. Focus on grading the effort
at meeting the objectives when writing under a time limit.
