Newspapers like the New York Times or the Washington Post that have good reputations for high-
quality, detailed reporting and generate articles that smaller newspapers use.
38. Identify three different types of primary sources and explain how they could be used in your speech.
The three types of primary sources are original documents, creative works, and relics or artifacts.
original documents are items such as diaries, emails, news footage, autobiographies, and minutes of
meetings. Creative works include books, paintings, poems, and dance performances. Relics or
artifacts are cultural objects such as jewelry, tools, clothing, and other created items. See discussion
of primary sources for possible examples (pg 89)
39. List three different domain suffixes and describe what each suffix tells you about the website.
Possible domain suffixes include: .com (for-profit business), .edu (from an educational institution),
.gov (a government agency), .org (a nonprofit), .mil (a military site).
40. List and explain the two main ways to record information you find during your research.
1) Note cards—standard sized cards with separate cards for information and sources; 2)
photocopies—with sources identified and highlighters used for marking important material.
