Role of men:
Men have the higher authority. Since this takes place during the the winter of the early
1900’s men were expected to lead,command, and be the breadwinners of the family. This is
shown through the sheriff, he takes charge and leads the investigation. Furthermore, since men
are working, they have majority power in the justice system making it easier to impose judgment
