Over the last few years it has become more frequent to see the use of smartphones among
younger generations. Normally, some people could consider that this fact takes their
childhood away, but some others remark the importance of keeping in touch with their
children, as a control measure.
On one side, I agree with the idea that young children should not have total control of their
mobile phones, because as they are not enough mature to discern between good and bad,
parents have to assume this role. In other words, children security has to be kept in order to
avoid possible blackmail or other type of problems. Besides this, parents should promote
face to face communication by being an example to follow for their kids.
On the flip side, in many cases mobile phones can be the perfect communicative tool
between parents and children. For instance, if a mother works until late and her son has to
be alone at home for many hours, his mother can assure that her kid is safe by texting or
phoning him. However, it does not mean that children have permission to overuse their
mobile phones, but instead, parents can establish a deal in which the kids must share their
passwords with them and maybe children could be rewarded for it.
To sum up, I would propose as a solution the launch of a special mobile phone in order to
avoid security and privacy problems with children. Above all/nevertheless, as I have
previously said, I frankly recommend face to face conversations instead of isolated chats.
