The word ‘yoga’ comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means “to join” or “to
yoke.” In theory, yoga brings us together as one, as a whole. There is a strong
misconception leading people to think that the different types of yoga are based solely on
religious practices, this is simply untrue. Yes, some of the first and earliest signs of yoga
are found in the Rig Veda-the oldest known existing text, made up of hymns with topics
of prayer, divine harmony and greater being- but yoga has been practiced by many
religious and non-religious people alike for thousands of years. The different types of
