The Xerox Corporation was founded in 1906 and was originally called The Haloid
Photographic Company. The name was changed to The Xerox Corporation in 1961.
Initial primary market share was office copier manufacturing, with scanners and digital
presses added over time. Eventually document management and business processes
services were added. The company engages in designing, developing and providing IT
solutions through its data centers, help desks, and managed storage facilities.” (Reed
Elsevier Inc, 2015) With business centers in nearly 180 countries, Xerox has established
itself as a global corporation. The company has primary facilities in Canada, France,
India, Ireland, Jamaica, Mexico, the Netherlands, Philippines, the UK, and the US.

The product division offers office printers, multifunction devices (MFD), scanners,
digital presses, and wide format printers.” (Green, 2016) The company also provides
document management solutions to companies of all sizes. Consisting of “Back office
transaction processing, centralized print services, enterprise content management, and
workflow automation.” (Green, 2016) While also offering businesses the opportunity to
hire its employees as contractors to help with business processing. Its two main business
segments account for more than 97% of Xerox’s sales: services (BPO and DO, 54%) and
document technology (products, supplies, and related service and financing, 43%).

Ursula Burns was named Chief Executive Officer in May of 2010. Making her the first
African-American female to lead a Fortune 500 company. She was also the first women
to replace another women CEO. She joined the company after graduate school in 1980 as
a summer intern. The company employed some 147,500 people in 2014 throughout all its
worldwide locations.
Year end 2014 posted revenue of $19.5 billion. (Hoovers, 2016) Net income exceeded
$474 million and total liabilities of $15 million. The board voted to split the company at
the end of the year. The exiting company will hold Xerox’s premier printer operations,

while the new company will contain its business process outsourcing unit. The split
should result in an estimated savings of $2.4 billion over three years. (Zacks.com, 2016)
