states of United States and provides its utility services to 3.3 million customers (for
electricity) & 1.8 million people (for natural gas). The company has four
subsidiaries-Northern state power Winscon, Public service Company of Colorado,
Northern State power Minnesota & South western Public service company.

Environment policies of Xcel Energy
•Compliance Programs-These are designed so as to reduce the company’s impact
on environment. These are:
v Coal Ash Management-It aims at safe disposal & reuse of coal ash generated from 13
coal plants across the states.
v Mercury reduction project-It targets mercury emissions reductions through installation of
mercury controls.
•Clean Air Projects-Some of the ongoing projects are Colorado Clean Air program,
Comanche generating station air emissions & Minnesota Metro Station emission
reduction projects.
•Climate Action-It includes preparation for New rules as per US EPA greenhouse
regulation to reduce greenhouse emissions
