By the early 1700s, France had become a power; the rest of Central and Western
Europe had no comparison too. Before the ruling of Henry IV, France seemed to be in a
state of crisis, with many rebellion forces lashing out against the crown and governing
bodies, forcing a big change on the way the country was ruled. When Louis claimed the
thrown things had been eventually put right, with Cardinal Richelieu political
mastermind bringing back more power to the crown. This put France in a good
economic state with trade at a high. Deeming the country as a high power in the eyes of
the Dutch, also reckoned to be one of the giant nations of the century. After the death of
Richelieu, Louis took control of the country at the age of just twenty-three.
Having a very strong and narrow political mind, Louis hand one goal – to have
more power than any other monarch in European history. How did he do this? Well,
