World War 1
The beginning of the 20th Century saw many of the most powerful countries in the
world form alliances as a result of many factors such as convenience or the increased security
that comes with having a powerful ally. There were a lot political and geographical
conditions that were likely to cause a chain reaction that would lead to a global conflict if any
of the powerful nations made a move against the other. The geopolitical situation in Europe
in the early 1900s was such that each of the great European powers were allied in a way that
upon the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand a world war was impossible to avoid.
Some of the conditions are discussed below.
Before the war began, Germany had been steadily increasing its military power and as
