Rome vs. Greece
“Veni, vidi, vici.” This was said by the great Roman dictator Julius Caesar. This means,
“I came, I saw, I conquered.” And that’s exactly what he did. The Roman army was superior to
other civilizations. Greece, another great civilization, had great accomplishments in military,
architecture, and cultural achievements. But the Romans executed these areas better. Greece
developed many ideas that the Romans built off of. This allowed the Romans to build off of the
ideas to make better strategies of the Greek military, architecture, and cultural achievements
which allowed Rome to prevail as the better civilization.
Rome was a powerhouse when it came to military. At its peak it had 500,000 soldiers,
including Germanic troops. Whereas, the Greeks had 50,000 troops with Alexander the Great at
their peak. Rome had a military formation that fit very well with this amount of troops. It was
