Workforce diversity comes with many benefits, but taking the steps to get there
can be challenging if you don’t do it right. Society today is open, understanding, and very
versatile. We have people of all different backgrounds and cultures, who bring different
experiences and opinions to the table. In the world of business, you want to have a
diverse workforce with fresh ideas, difference in opinion, and eagerness to learn new
ways. Benefits of having this diversity include the opportunity to learn from others who
have come from completely different countries, companies, and social groups. Someone
coming to work for you from a different country is a huge benefit especially if you’ll be
doing business with that country. You now have someone who knows the language,
culture, and customs. Every country has different social norms, so it is important to be
aware and respectful of those when doing business, what better way of doing that than
having someone from that culture on your side? Bringing on a new member from a
different company is a smart way to learn the habits of another company, what did and
didn’t work for them and how they went about business. By having someone from a
different company, whether it’s in the same industry or something completely different,
you can learn from them and listen to their ideas. Even different social groups can bring
new and innovative ideas to your business. Maybe your company is predominately
middle aged adults. By bringing on a younger employee, you can use their ideas and
thoughts to appeal to a younger crowd and get caught up on the times. Maybe your
company is mostly men, or mostly women, by bringing on the opposite sex you are
broadening your horizons and opening up to new ideas that come from the perspective of
that gender. Men and women think very differently and it’s important to look through the
eyes of both. The issue with incorporating diversity in the workplace is the fact that some
people are afraid of change or are close minded. Not everyone is open to listening to
