The object of this essay is to explain very clearly that women deserve equal opportunity
in the workplace as men and why. This will be explained using John Stuart Mill’s “The
Subjection of Women” and Jane Addams’ “If Men Were Seeking the Franchise” as my sources
and utilitarianism philosophical background. Women should experience the same job
opportunities, the same raise opportunities, the same pay, and the same requirements as men.
Namely I’ll also explain why it is that men have oppressed women of these rights for so long and
also why women have allowed for the oppression and why some women even have agreed with
this oppression for so long. A brief counter argument will be presented for each point just to keep
thoughts moving and to show a lack of dogmatism on my behalf.
