As a future career the thought of being a high school football coach to some people might sound
crazy, but to me it would be the perfect fit, I love football and if I don’t make it to where I want to with
football, I want to be able to give my knowledge to the younger kids/ teens. I am out there with the kids
prepairing them for life, the next level of schooling or football whatever these kids decide to do I have to
get them ready for it. I’ve never had a football coach who told me wrong or led me in the wrong
direction not all but, most of my coaches where stand up guys and set a great example. There are also
many problems that come with coaching from the outsiders view by outsiders I mean parents and
people who don’t play football and those problems are a lack of leadership and discipline, and
concussions in football. These two problems are very common issues and are brought up frequently, but
with every problem there’s a solution.
The outsiders argue that High school coaches are too soft on their players and they want to be
more of their friend instead of their coach. This could cause players to talk back to coaches, act out
during a game, and just have no respect while on the team. “Players attacked a ref at a coach’s request,
one student clocked an opposing player in the head with his own helmet and another tried to stomp out
a helmet-less opponent when he was on the ground” (Adam Silver). The outsiders hear this and feel as if
it’s because the coach don’t have any leadership or discipline. When I asked my old high school coach
Michael Pitts about the situation of lack of leadership and discipline and he stated “As a coach we can
only lead so far. Now as far as leadership goes we try to show the players that you have to have fun but
you also need to know when to handle business. It is our job to teach these kids that when you are in
public you aren’t just representing us but that you are representing yourself and yourself image is the
most important thing. We also want to teach our athletes that it’s not just about one player or person if
one person fucks up we all fuck up. Football coaches discipline their kids everyday honestly, we just
discipline in a different way we require kids to come to study table which is a study session with coaches
