Abstract
With climate change and the issue of global warming, water is becoming more and more
important natural resource that is in danger of becoming scarce. In United States, various policies
and approaches have been adopted to protect water resource as a mechanism to enhance water
security in the country. Due to climate change and other human activity, the reserve for fresh water
in the United States is declining, a factor that has prompted the enactment of various legislature to
protect water bodies in the United States. Furthermore, the increase in industrialization and mining
activity, together with farming, are other human activities threatening the supply of clean water in
the country. Human activities have been contributing to the contamination of water bodies and
hence creating a threat to the supply of clean water to consumers in the society. For this case there
has been adoption of various legislative regulations that aim to protect the water sources from being
contaminated by human activities and misused through human activities. The adopted Legislation
for water regulation is formulated by various bodies, including the federal government, state
government and local government. For the public system, it is the environmental Protection Agency
that is responsible for setting standards. Thus water regulation is an essential practice in the United
States that has been used to promote the ability of citizens to access clean water that does not
jeopardize their health and the protection of the environment.
