Research Paper Essay #3
Why Run?
It is a sunny summer day, as you step outside you feel the breezy wind brush against your
face. You are determined to break twenty-five minutes in the five kilometer race at the annual
Turkey Trot. Running is the best ways to stay active and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Running is
by far one of the biggest sports competed by both female and male teenagers worldwide.
Running is I want to persuade teenagers to start running because running lowers the risk
of obesity, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, because running improves your
psychological and mental health, and because running helps teenagers manage their time
properly and earn a scholarship for college.
Running has many health benefits, but adolescents are the biggest group that would
benefit from running, since their physical and mental state is still developing. Running reduces
the chances of teenagers getting chronic illnesses, such as diabetes type II, hypertension and
heart disease. Running will also help teenagers lose weight, which would prevent from obesity
and diabetes. Wes Judd, a fitness editor for Outside Magazine and an ultrarunner refers,
“Researchers examined more than 55,000 men and women … running just one to two hours per
week, you can slash your risk of cardiovascular related death by 45 to 70 percent and your
chances of dying from cancer by 30 to 50 percent” (Judd 71). The author explains how running
just two hours a week can have a great impact on your cardiovascular health, and also it lowers
your chances of dying from cancer. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in America
and just think how many lives could be saved simply by running outside for two hours every
week. One of the main causes of diabetes type II is obesity and running is a key activity to losing
weight and burning fats and carbs faster. One might argue that running can cause a heart attack,
an injury and iron deficiency. If an overweight who has not run in years goes out and runs two
miles at a fast pace then, there is a chance he could pass out or injure himself. That person might
not be able to complete that run too. Running is not just about using your legs, it is also about
training your heart and your lungs. When I first started running, I was feeling fatigued and I was
diagnosed with iron deficiency. I was able to bring my iron levels within three months by eating
raisins, red meat and taking iron pills. The benefits of running outweigh the injuries caused by
running.
