Wow, what a huge eye-opener! Professor Henson and Dr. Whitney Hollins did an
amazing job focusing on and discussing children of incarcerated parents. I truly would wish that
more criminal justice classes would talk more about this topic. Over the years, I have learned
about theories and why people commit crimes, but this is the first time in my four years that I
learn about children of incarcerated parents. In fact, I have never met an individual of an
incarcerated parent until now. Professor Henson and the work she did seven years ago with
father and children together, is broadly amazing! Dr. Whitney Hollins, who is a true inspiration,
a researcher, an educator, and an advocate for children with incarcerated parents.
If I were to speak to my family and friends about Dr. Whitney’s lecture, I would tell them
to not believe in every research study. I believe this is super important because as a college
