It is big decision time for Charles Stott, who is appointed the new President of Whistler,
the used-to-be lead of radar detector. With furious competitors and obstacles from different
States, the industry is going down. There are several options left for him to choose, and all
the options are reasonable. It is hard to pick one which is optimized. From my point of
view, I agree with several suggestions and it is no harm to combine some of them together
without having to be opposite to each other. Agnar and Enric argued that the main topic or
suggestions should be clear and simple. (Agnar & Enric, 1994) I will recommend that
Whistler still focuses more of its budget and energy in the R&D side and worry free of the
manufacturing since it is the most troublesome part, why don’t we just totally off-shore it.
One option is to focus on the result of the consulting company. Since the MPL (model
production line) was successful and it can short the production time from 23 days to 1.5
days, why just use this pilot method and spread it to the whole Westford plant. But of
course, the pilot method is in doubt of replicating in the whole plant. Another option is
followed by this on the manufacturing side, which is about reduce total labor force and
lower the cost with potentially close the Fitchburg plant. There is also another option of
giving up the radar detector line but produce other related products like CB radios, battery
