What is Roe V Wade?
Roe v Wade is the lawsuit that took place in Texas in 1973 in the U.S. supreme court in which
Jane Roe who was 22 at the time was in her third pregnancy that she did not want to continue to
carry to term due to the fact that she was unemployed, and unmarried. Now who is Wade? Henry
Wade was the district attorney in Texas, he was sued by Jane Roe or Norma McCorvey when she
sought the abortion. The plaintiff stated that denying her the ability to abort her child violated her
constitutional right to her protected privacy. Before abortion was legalized in 1973, if women
wanted to have an abortion they would have to face a board of male legislators and they would
make the decision, most of the time they would make the women become sterilized if they
decided to have the abortion in order to keep them from having more.
