1. What is production management?
Production Management refers to the application of management principles to
the production part of the company. It basically involves planning, organizing,
directing, and controlling the production process. Its ultimate goal is to convert raw
materials into finished products. Others may refer to Production Management as the
bringing together of the 6 Ms: Men, Money, Machines, Materials, Methods, and
Markets.
2. What is operation management?
Operations Management deals with the supervision, design, and planning
of business operations. Its main objective is to enhance the quality of business
operations, focusing on successfully turning inputs into outputs in the most
efficient manner.
3. How does production management differ from operation management?
Production management is about managing activities related to production
only
Operation management is about the management of overall business
operations which includes production and postproduction stages
4. Why study operations management?
It is important to study operations management because operations is a
part of any business organization, and in order for the company to be
successful all members of the organization must know not only their roles but
also the roles of others in order to understand how everything works in the
organization.
5. What are the basic functions of business organization?
There are 3 basic function of business organization and these are the
finance which is responsible for securing the financial resources and
allocating these resources throughout the organization, as well as budgeting
and providing funds for operations. Marketing, which is responsible for
assessing the customers wants and needs, as well as promoting and selling the
goods and services the organization offers. Operations, which is responsible
for producing goods or providing services offered by the organization.
6. What are the roles of operations manager and production manager?
Operations manager is responsible for the creation of goods or the
provision of services.
7. What are the characteristics of production system?
Production is an organized activity, so every production system has an
objective
The systems transforms the various inputs into useful outputs
it does not operate in isolation from the other organization system
there exists a feedback about activities, which is essential to control and
improve system performance
8. What is organizational strategy?
These are plans for achieving organizational goals. It is important as it
guides the organization by providing direction for, alignment of the goals and
strategies of the functional units. These strategies can also be the reason for
the success or failure of the business.
9. Define productivity and productivity growth?
Productivity is an index that measures output relative to the input used
to produce it. Productivity growth is the increase in productivity from one
period from the next relative to the productivity in the preceding period.
10. What is the key function of demand side and supply side?
The key function on the supply side are operations and supply chains,
the key function on the demand side are the sales and marketing.
11. What is supply chain?
It is the sequence of the organization- facilities, functions, and activities
that are involved in producing and delivering a product or service.
12. What are the major factors that influences the competitiveness of the

Goods is tangible and services is intangible.
17. What is the ideal situation in business organization?
To have an economic match of supply and demand. There must be a
balance between the two as excess in supply is a waste of resources and is
costly while having too little supply could not meet demand thereby losing
opportunity and gaining customer dissatisfaction.

1. What is quality according to American Society for Quality (ASQ)?
It is a characteristics of a product or service that bear on its stated or
implied needs.
Product or service free of deficiencies.
2. What is quality according to Deming?
“The consumer is the most important part of the production line.
Quality should be aimed at the needs of the consumer, present and future.”
3. Technically, what does quality mean?
In my opinion, the meaning of quality varies depending on the
person/people defining it.
4. Quality is based on what perspectives?
It is based on the customers’ perspective (fitness for use) and the
producer’s Perspective (quality of conformance)
